Björk x Apple

Icelandic singer-songwriter, Björk, is getting technologically creative her latest collaboration and next musical release. She may be best known for her new wave electronic sound in hits like “Army of Me” and “Hyperballad”, but Björk has showed her range of talent by producing and composing music as well as acting in a few films. She’s won four MTV Music Video Awards, and has been nominated for 13 Grammys and even an Oscar. It may be safe to say the dead swan she wore as a dress in 2001 killed her chances of winning that Oscar, but I guess we’ll never really know.

Kanye West x M/M Paris

Creative team M/M (Paris) have been working under the radar since their short-lived stint as creative directors of Interview Magazine. That isn’t to suggest they haven’t been busy though. The dynamic duo, and minds behind many a Balenciaga ad campaign and Björk album cover, have been commissioned to create an illustrative letterset for Kanye West’s latest album, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. And as it is with all things Kanye, there had to be a fashion aspect.

This by That: Kanye West x Stubbs & Wootton

This fashion-loving musician (with the aid of his new precocious muse) are working on a mens’ footwear collaboration. Both parties love making a statement so making an upgrade to the footwear brands de rigueur velvet loafers is no surprise. According to a telling New York Post article, we can expect big things from these individuals. What we can’t tell is what we are more excited about: the new album, the collaboration, or the muse and his eminent Fashin following. All this just when we thought Rachel Zoe was going to be so lonely without Brad.

Stay tuned for more details, etc.

Jay-Z isn’t stopping until we associate him with all things NYC. After you heard the song, “Empire State of Mind” enough to have it on playback in your sleep, the rap mogul has gone and infiltrated America’s favorite pastime, the NY staple: The New York Yankees. The collection is produced by Majestic (supplier of all MLB uniforms) and New Era 59fifty (producer of hats for all teams). The selection of co-branded merchandise, will include both menswear and womenswear and will be sold exclusively at Yankee Stadium, including baseball caps, t-shirts, and hooded sweat shirts. Like the above fitted hat embroidered with that now infamous line, “I made the Yankee hat more famous than a Yankee can”.

Yi Zhou x Pharrell Williams

Photo: Yi Zhou

Pharrell Williams is slowly making a name for himself in the art world. First as an avid collector and as a collaborator, having worked with Domeau & Pérès and now as muse for Chinese artist, Yi Zhou. Zhou’s exhibit I AM YOUR SIMULACRUM features a striking animated explosion of Williams’s face, cast as a 3D Grecian-style urn. The progression is the face breaking down into a cubist-like structure straight out of a Duchamp painting. More striking though is that Zhou has a reasonable explanation for the use of the mogul’s visage.

Nikki Six x Kelly Gray

Photo: Royal Underground

Who says the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree? Kelly Gray, former CEO and creative director of St. John, and daughter to St. John’s founders, has been collaborating with Nikki Sixx of hard rock band Motley Crue on Royal Underground, her line of men’s and women’s casual wear. Gray’s parents founded the conservatively chic St. John back in 1962, so Royal Underground is quite a rebellious departure from managing a world of twinsets and tea-length tweed.

Franz Ferdinand x Pringle of Scotland

It may feel like ages since we’ve seen Scottish rock group Franz Ferdinand hit the stage but our fondness for the quartet hasn’t waned in the slightest. That’s why we’re excited to see them fall back into the fray with a new single and a collaboration with Pringle of Scotland. Pringle’s been able to consistently entice some of the UK’s greatest acts (they count The Kooks and Dirty Pretty Things as fans) and their cache of enviable talent includes the charming Tilda Swinton with a campaign shot by Ryan McGinley.

Alex Kapranos and Nick McCarthy have contributed to the brand by designing a wool jumper for Pringle’s SS 2011 collection and performed at their presentation. The musicians were given carte blanche, [they] “thought of golf and everything I hated as an adolescent and wanted to rebel against” – Dazed Digital. Rebellion isn’t the first thing that comes to mind when thinking of Pringle, but there’s nothing to stop you from infusing a little of that angst into Argyle patterns and classic twinsets.

Video of the performance, etc…
