Kanye West x M/M Paris

Creative team M/M (Paris) have been working under the radar since their short-lived stint as creative directors of Interview Magazine. That isn’t to suggest they haven’t been busy though. The dynamic duo, and minds behind many a Balenciaga ad campaign and Björk album cover, have been commissioned to create an illustrative letterset for Kanye West’s latest album, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. And as it is with all things Kanye, there had to be a fashion aspect.

John Matos x Tumi

Statement luggage is a must. Why? Two reasons: First, baggage claim at the airport can quickly go from civilization to animal kingdom as weary passengers’ eyes dart from side to side hoping to spot their bag. Second, travel can be daunting, and there’s nothing like a good accessory to make the crush at the airport seem a little more bearable. That’s why we’re fans of Tumi’s new collaboration with graffiti artist John Matos.

Kicking off a new year of collaborations, Anya Hindmarch is launching a new handbag line with department store Temple Muse. For the uninitiated, Temple Muse is Nigeria’s top luxury department store located on Victoria Island, and Hindmarch is reprising her famous Be A Bag line in tandem with the retailer. Nigeria has reached its 50 year anniversary of independence, and to commemorate the momentous occasion Temple Muse, Anya Hindmarch, and Lagos-based photographer Emma Nwawudu have developed some iconic styles that depict life in the heart of the city.

Are there any brands left that has not tapped into the well of international young designers and artists to market their product? Now we would never discount all corporate sponsored art. Occasionally a bright spot surfaces, but these collabs are a common misconception that hiring an artist implies a depth to your product. Most recently, at the Paris Motor Show last month, Land Rover, the British car company has hired French-based designers Jean-Charles de Castelbajac, Surface to Air, as well as art director of Intersection Magazine Yorgo Tloupas and artist cum club owner Andre, to create four distinctive takes on the new Range Rover Evoque. As part of the marketing campaign, the vehicles are planted in several Parisian locations as pop up installations. Very au current marketing scheme, Land Rover.

Yi Zhou x Pharrell Williams

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Pharrell Williams is slowly making a name for himself in the art world. First as an avid collector and as a collaborator, having worked with Domeau & Pérès and now as muse for Chinese artist, Yi Zhou. Zhou’s exhibit I AM YOUR SIMULACRUM features a striking animated explosion of Williams’s face, cast as a 3D Grecian-style urn. The progression is the face breaking down into a cubist-like structure straight out of a Duchamp painting. More striking though is that Zhou has a reasonable explanation for the use of the mogul’s visage.

Gao Yu x Absolut Vodka

Photo: Absolut

Everyone seems to have Sweden on the mind lately. Most recently, Mercedes-Benz Stockholm Fashion Week has generated quite a bit of press. Let’s not forget that Swedish brands like Acne and Fifth Avenue Shoe Repair are stocked in closets of those in the foreground of fashion. Well not to be undone, is 130 year-old Swedish innovator (understatement!) Absolut Vodka, which has collaborated with Chinese Pop Artist Gao Yu on a new bottle design titled “Absolut 72 Transformations”. Always thinking.
