AHAlife x Diane Von Furstenberg

Photo: Diane Von Furstenberg

Just about anything Diane von Furstenberg touches turns to commercial gold. The impossibly glamorous designer and CFDA president has managed to spend 40 years luring women into her looks. Cashing in on that stylish sensibility, uniquely curated website AHAlife is giving you the opportunity to purchase a limited-edition 10 megapixel Canon G-12 camera with DVF’s iconic Andy Warhol-designed lip print in black and pink Swarovski crystals and a zebra print dust bag.

Mubi x Playstation 3

Photo: Playstation Blog

MUBI and Playstation 3 (PS3) are launching a video streaming service in some European countries, Nordic countries, the UK and Australia and New Zealand. We aren’t surprised here in the US, after a crippling descent in sales, Blockbuster Inc. has finally filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy production, a sign that the services like Netflix and video on demand have finally removed the need for the storefront video store, and particularly late fees, unavailable titles, and trying to find parking. Now MUBI and Playstation are hoping to create an online community (are they avoiding the term “social network”?) and capitalize on some of that film lover capital.

This by That: LaQuan Smith x Miriam Salat?

Which young and former heel toting NY fashion designer, who also happens to be a favorite of an American Vogue editor, is in talks with one of our favorite boho-chic fine jewelry designers? We can’t wait to see if this potential pairing changes the attitudes of the future SS11 minimalist armies or creates a hippie, demure, and utterly maximal set. Yes all those things are possible with these two and their clientele.

Sears x French Connection

Photo: Stylelist

Marking another notable union of major department store and fast fashion brand,Sears Holding Corp is entering into a new collaboration with British brand French Connection. It looks like Sears is attempting to capitalize on the brand’s trench-chasing customer, effectively infusing the store’s meek offerings with a bit of much needed energy. Sears’ new “UK Style” will be priced from $9.90 to $50,an appealing markdown from French Connection’s relatively more expensive offerings. This is a ballsy move for UK brand.

Lori Goldstein x Fred Leighton

UPDATE

As we reported back in August, Goldstein has developed a collection with Fred Leighton jewelry and now we have the details. Fred Leighton’s creative director, Rebecca Selva, approached Goldstein with a bag of beads and the opportunity to design to her heart’s content. While many an experienced stylist would find the task daunting, Goldstein couldn’t resist the chance to be inspired by the 45-year-old house’s archives.

Alexis Mabille x Christophe de Quenetain

French designer Alexis Mabille has developed a pretty sensational following. In the past few years, the spirited couturier has moved into ready-to-wear and menswear, and is now collaborating with art historian and antiques dealer, Christophe de Quenetain for the Biennale des Antiquaires.

Spring 2011 Shoe Collaborations, etc

Just in case you’ve been living under a rock, New York Fashion Week was this past week, and we have quite a few shoe collaborations to discuss. Nicholas Kirkwood has again taken up with the Mulleavy sisters on another fantastic collection. Carved wood paneling, gold ornaments, and Ming vase prints on platforms are the perfect complement to the new mood in the Rodarte collection. And as always, we doubt we’ll see these pairs off the feet of elite international editors.

In surprising news, Chris Benz worked with Alejandro Ingelmo this season on a few styles that bridge the gap between Benz’s quirky ladylike demure and Ingelmo’s oh so right vulgar and sexy platform. In particular, the slingback platforms with contrast floral and bondage lacing were a delight. Signature Ingelmo woven leather felt right for the twisted debutante Benz girl.

Now for the good news in dollars and cents, it isn’t only niche designers getting in on the fashion week footwear collaborations. Aldo is collaborating with both Julian Louie and Rad Hourani on their Spring 2011 shoe lines. Julian Louie’s patchwork wedges are sure to sell out in a heartbeat. At Aldo prices, we highly recommend pre-ordering. Rad Hourani’s styles on the other hand…well, we’ve had our fill of leather and zippers, but they may be the perfect fit for all our rocker girls who refuse to move on.

Valentino x Gap

While H&M has a history of successful high-low collaborations, it’s not so much the case with the Gap. Other than Stella McCartney’s adorable kids collection and the nearly impossible to find Pierre Hardy shoes, the Gap hasn’t shown much interest or received a warm welcome from luxury designers. That’s why it came as a surprise that Valentino creative directors Maria Grazia Chiui and Pier Paolo Picciolo are working with the Gap on a capsule collection of womenswear this winter. It’s quite obvious that the House of Valentino is trying to work in a little mass appeal for the storied brand, just take a look up at the hemlines of the last few seasons.
