At this point, the model turned designer is an old trope. Kate Moss ignited the trend with her widely popular collection for Topshop, with Erin Wasson hopping on board a few seasons later for RVCA. Now Jessica Stam is taking the design route with a collaboration with Rachel Roy featuring four pieces for Roy’s lower-priced diffusion line, RACHEL Rachel Roy. Stam tweeted this collaboration months ago to less than stellar reactions. Well Stam has taken the creative helm before, designing a pair of Repetto oxfords (but who hasn’t worked with Repetto these days) and also consulting on Rag & Bone’s Spring 2010 collection.

The real news this week may be that after a tumultuous two years, Barneys New York has finally named former Gucci head Mark Lee as CEO. But the struggling department store’s most charming and visible figure, creative director Simon Doonan, is also in the news with two new collaborations. One with stationery brand Dempsey & Carroll and another with Target. In both instances, the dandy Doonan has contributed his best asset: a never-ending inventory of clever quips. “Battleship Grey is the New Choccie Brown” and “Skinny Jeans are the New Pantyhose” are just a couple of the bon mots Doonan has chosen for his four new designs for Dempsey and Carroll stationery, with a fifth available to let you fill in the blanks.

Gao Yu x Absolut Vodka

Photo: Absolut

Everyone seems to have Sweden on the mind lately. Most recently, Mercedes-Benz Stockholm Fashion Week has generated quite a bit of press. Let’s not forget that Swedish brands like Acne and Fifth Avenue Shoe Repair are stocked in closets of those in the foreground of fashion. Well not to be undone, is 130 year-old Swedish innovator (understatement!) Absolut Vodka, which has collaborated with Chinese Pop Artist Gao Yu on a new bottle design titled “Absolut 72 Transformations”. Always thinking.

Adam Kimmel x George Condo

Photo: Hint Magazine

Adam Kimmel and American artist George Condo have paired up for a new line of T-shirts. If the Condo name sounds familiar, it’s because Kanye West also tapped the artist to create the artwork for his ‘ it’s the new Kanye’ and hit single, Power. The collection comes courtesy of Kimmel’s Fall 2010 collection, titled Casino, featuring a line-up of Monte Carlo standards including velvet smoking jackets and robes. Kimmel’s never one to shy away from a little humor, so he decided to accent his designs with George Condo’s devilish masks, as well as monogrammed crests to compliment the high-roller allure of his pieces.

Lisa Perry x Carl Fischer and Nat Finkelstein

While fashion designers may seem like they collectively decide what their source of inspiration will be, Lisa Perry is sticking to her guns with Pop Art and 60s influenced pieces that her admirers have come to love and want. The designer’s love of all things mod (Perry is an avid vintage collector) has led to a collaboration with prominent 1960s photographers, the late Nat Finkelstein and Carl Fischer on a collection of printed dresses. Modeled after several paper dresses Perry once owned, she secured the rights to three iconic photographs, most notably Fischer’s Esquire cover of Andy Warhol drowning in a can of Campbell’s tomato soup.

Brian Lichtenberg x Forever 21

Forever 21 may be known for disposable dresses and designer knockoffs, but the brand can supply some pretty appealing pieces, like the upcoming collaboration they have in store with designer Brian Lichtenberg. While Lichtenberg may not bring the fame quotient in the way Karl Lagerfeld did for H&M, the L.A based designer isn’t exactly an unknown. You’ve seen his dresses before, whether on Kim Kardashian, Lindsay Lohan, and of course you remember the caution-tape bodysuit Lady Gaga donned in her Telephone video.
