Bally is turning to students from London’s iconic Central St. Martins and challenging them to design a special footwear collection marrying editorial style and Bally’s traditional heritage. Earlier this year, Louis Vuitton approached Parsons’ Students with the opportunity to interpret the brand in a special exhibition, but Bally is upping the ante by producing an internationally distributed line. CSM, alma mater to Alexander McQueen and John Galliano, is generally the culprit behind any youthquake in international design, and Bally is taking advantage of students whose work is already being featured in publications such as AnOther Magazine (www.anothermag.com) and Unpublished (www.unpublishedonline.com).

The collection’s focus is on unusual heel shapes, and of 15 students, 5 were chosen to have their designs developed by the brand. The lucky few have the opportunity to learn the operations side of their chosen field while still expressing themselves creatively. A great experience to have before the demands of delivery schedules and overzealous studio directors make them question their choices. We don’t worry too much though, CSM grads have a knack of falling on their feet. Bally will be celebrating the collaboration’s in-store arrival this September at Vogue’s Fashion’s Night Out.
