Where to even begin with the upcoming collaborations at Target’s new East Harlem location opening on July 25th? Well for starters East Harlem is about to become a veritable Mecca for down and out fashionistas seeking respite from crippling niche boutique price gauging. And if that isn’t enough to have you rejoicing on your cramped studio apartment’s rooftop, the collab-happy megastore has brought on a few new additions to tantalize the non-believers…

A few of our favorites below, etc…

Additions will include some of fashion and food’s beloved stalwarts, presenting the masses with an assortment of stylistic steals that celebrate the Harlem community.

First up is the Isabel and Ruben Toledo collection, delighting the aquatic set with an assortment of psychedelic swimsuits and towels ($17.99-$34.99). Toledo’s designs feature bold cut-outs and symmetry; sure to garner as much attention as Toledo’s most famous look: a certain lemongrass number on a certain world leader’s First Lady. Stephen Burrows, whose rich history includes dressing women who require only one name (Cher and Iman) is also on tap to bring his aplomb to Target. Burrows’ collection features an array of knits that are meant to embody Harlem’s unique urban vibrancy ($19.99-$34.99). And if you insist on spending the summer sweltering indoors, Aquavit owner and Epicurean star Marcus Samuelsson has designed a range of aprons, placemats, potholders, and other fanciful kitchen adornments to help make the evenings spent eating in a wee bit more bearable ($3.99-$19.99).

It’s no surprise to us that Target has chosen such a diverse and established set to incorporate the culture of Harlem. They have a history of recruiting diverse talent (Rodarte, Thakoon, etc) but in this case we commend them for exposing these relatively unsung staples to a new generation. We’ll lay off the praise once we mention proceeds from Toledo, Burrows, and Samuelsson’s collections will benefit the El Museo del Barrio; the Young Women’s Leadership School; and the Harlem PS 180 School, respectively. Go ahead. Start planning your route uptown.

Footwear brand Dolce Vita is also doing an exclusive line for the East Harlem post. While Dolce Vita is already reasonably priced for a pretty well edited footwear collection, prices for Target will range from $29.99 to $34.99. It seems uptown girls are having all the fun

  1. This is a great idea for a blog. Especially love the Dell/Threadless collaboration. I have no idea who the image in my banner is by. I came across the image years ago and saved it without naming it. I’ve tried googling but can’t find anything.
