Moncler has a thorough history of avant-garde collaborations. Thom Browne’s Gamme Blue and Giambattista Valli’s Gamme Rouge bring the perfect amount of editorial imagination to the French brand’s tried and true alpine staples. Now Moncler is rounding out their menswear offerings with a special edition collection designed by Grammy-winning musician and producer Pharrell Williams. Williams’ designs feature all black vests and jackets using futuristic fabrics (aka recycled plastic bottles) by Bionic Yarn (owned by Pharrell), leather details, gold waterproof zips, as well as linings in a lush forest motif designed by Japanese artist Keita Sugiura.

Sugiura used a selection of prints from his “Dark Forest” series that evoke Japanese landscapes in darkness. Smart thinking on Moncler’s part to combine Williams’ taste for unapologetic luxury with the nuanced Japanese artist, considering Williams’ already extensive influence in Japan. Before launching Billionaire Boys Club and Ice Cream, the hip-hop mogul was a devotee of the cult Japanese brand BAPE, before gaining worldwide recognition and moving on to high profile collaborations with the likes of Louis Vuitton. Williams’ understated designs marry tradition and art; one thing Moncler’s always striving for. What can we say? They know how to push a puffer.
