Boxing Kitten x Osborn

The age of the aggressive gladiator sandal is hopefully behind us and now designers are struggling to find the perfect balance between quirk and chic for this summer’s footwear. Maya Lake’s line Boxing Kitten has collaborated with Brooklyn company http://www.osborndesign.com/on a colorful update to this season’s popular oxford. The print has a distinct West African vibe; a look favored by designers like Dries van Noten, while the soles are made from recycled tires. The $180 price is made that much more reasonable when you know you’re making an ecological contribution.

Etc…

While brands like Marc Jacobs and Moschino have the market cornered when it comes to the quirky chic, this collaboration between two relative upstarts is a welcomed alternative and we hope to see more. We commonly see top-tier brands approaching relative unknowns to produce limited editions, with promising talent being overlooked far too often. Young designers have the benefit of using each other to expand their appeal, open new markets, and hopefully create some generally innovative new pieces, and those are collaborations we can always get behind.
