Pioneers in Collaboration: Lutz & Patmos

The news has already started to echo around town that Lutz & Patmos will shutter it’s doors by the end of the year. But don’t count these ladies out just yet. Marcia Patmos and Tina Lutz cottoned onto the collaboration trend in it’s nascence and were the very first NY-based design team to collaborate with UNIQLO when it first touched down in Soho in 2005. They had the forethought and confidence to understand the importance of attaching one’s name and aesthetic to a bigger and more diverse business model in order to stay relevant. And by doing so, managed to carve a name for themselves in the already crowded knitwear market. Having had guest designers ranging from Desmond Tutu and Carine Roitfeld to Natalia Vodianova and Jane Birkin, we’re sure their respective Rolodexes should yield some very promising options for the future.
