Vionnet x Giuseppe Zanotti Design

Vionnet, much like Halston and Bill Blass, is another storied design house trying to reinvent itself. The company has made strides toward greater brand recognition (outfitting Ginnifer Goodwin for the Golden Globes was a lay up) and now they are branching into accessories with shoe-designer Giuseppe Zanotti. Zanotti has worked with Balmain, Proenza Schouler, and Thakoon in the past. So we are pleased that Vionnet’s classic aesthetic forces the designer to take a break from the more aggressive embellishments that have foot fetishists swooning and real women fearing for their lives on cobblestone streets.

Scott Campbell x Louis Vuitton

If there’s one thing we never imagined making the crossover into the luxury market it was the temporary tattoo. Then again, we live in an age in which designers will monogram just about anything to keep profits up. Though our fondness for temporary tattoos waned some time before puberty, Chanel made us reconsider with their ultra chic designs for spring. Now Louis Vuitton has jumped on the bandwagon through a collaboration with artist Scott Campbell, recruited by Marc Jacobs, for the Spring 2011 menswear show.

Pat McGrath x LeSportsac

Photo: Fashionista

As one of the few major black makeup artists, Pat McGrath is no stranger to being a pioneer in the fashion industry. Her legendary work for the houses of Dior and Galliano showcase her breathtaking talent for innovative use of color and contour. In between her editorial, advertising, and runway commitments the make-up mogul finds time to fill the role of Global Creative Director for COVERGIRL and has now lent her expertise to LeSportsac in designing the perfect cosmetics bag.

LeSportsac isn’t new to star collaborations (Stella McCartney and Gwen Stefani in the past) but this marks the brands first beauty partnership. “The Pat” and “The Page” retail for $28 and $62 respectively and are available in LeSportsac boutiques as well as online. McGrath’s designs are minimal, but feature a striking pop of yellow piping on a soft black canvas. Perfect for spotting underneath your blow dryer, hair straightener and curling iron on those rushed early mornings getting dressed in the dark.

Manolo Blahnik x Liberty of London

Fabled British department store Liberty of London has snagged yet another high-profile collaboration. Having worked with numerous luxury brands in the past including Hermes, MAC and A.P.C., the beloved boutique isn’t resting on it’s laurels. On the contrary, Liberty is keeping it’s break-neck momentum going by recruiting Manolo Blahnik for a collection debuting this fall. Who better than this “sole-man” to interpret Liberty’s more vivacious prints into elegant, feminine styles.

Scott Wilson x Peter Pilotto

Photo: Peter Pilotto

Peter Pilotto and Scott Wilson are back for another season of their winning accessory collaboration. For A/W 2010, Wilson has added raccoon fur, textured acrylic, and plated metal and chains to compliment Pilotto’s signature prints. Though they’re sporadically distributed throughout Pilotto’s A/W presentation, we can definitely see them working on the right stylish person. Wilson’s fur cuff is a charming accent to Pilotto’s looks, but be careful when considering the raccoon fur shoulder-belts. Wouldn’t want to veer into Daniel Boone territory.

London-based designer Zandra Rhodes has been unabashedly working her vibrant psychedelic style through four decades without ever considering turning down the volume. Now Rhodes, with the help of designer Noelle Reno, is channeling her signature style into a diffusion line, Z by Zandra Rhodes, exclusively at Harvey Nichols London. Rhodes has produced nine looks, comprised of easy-to-wear pieces like printed leggings, jersey dresses and tees, all encompassing the designer’s haute-hippie aesthetic.

Vivienne Westwood x Cool Earth

Photo:Vivienne Westwood

Vivienne Westwood
has a history of engaging the fashion industry in a dialogue about climate change. Her “ACT FAST/SLOW DOWN” t-shirts were a huge hit last year with proceeds supporting the United Nations Climate Change Conference and now the London designer is continuing her eco-charity through a collaboration with Cool Earth. Westwood is designing a selection of tablecloths with over twenty designs based on past and present collections.

The strength of fashion’s eco-conscience is debatable. When you consider the carbon foot-print the industry leaves, from sourcing fabric to flying collections, samples, employees (and models) all over the world, the numbers really rack up. Arguably, the greatest impact consumers can have on the environment is to curb purchasing, seek out locally-produced goods, and invest in quality vintage and secondhand pieces. But those solutions just don’t seem to work for fashion’s bottom line.

Boxing Kitten x Osborn

Photo: The Fader

The age of the aggressive gladiator sandal is hopefully behind us and now designers are struggling to find the perfect balance between quirk and chic for this summer’s footwear. Maya Lake’s line Boxing Kitten has collaborated with Brooklyn company http://www.osborndesign.com/on a colorful update to this season’s popular oxford. The print has a distinct West African vibe; a look favored by designers like Dries van Noten, while the soles are made from recycled tires. The $180 price is made that much more reasonable when you know you’re making an ecological contribution.
