Preen x Gieves & Hawkes

Preen designers Justin Thornton and Thea Bregazzi have been pretty lucky. They’ve managed to dress megastars like Gwyneth Paltrow and Rihanna while still maintaining a following of fashion editors, critics, and It-girls who never seem to tire of their perpetually cool designs. The designers are moving their label forward by collaborating with English tailoring firm Gieves & Hawkes. The brand approached Gieves & Hawkes to provide sharply tailored pieces for their A/W 2010 collection, including double-breasted jackets, exaggerated lapels, and structured cocktail dresses. “We wanted it to be masculine with a feminine twist, we thought it was about time we gave our Preen girl something to wear to work,” the designers told Vogue UK.

The androgynous tailoring is a welcome addition to Preen’s repertoire of futuristic cocktail dresses and slouchy knits. Not to imply that the designers have foregone their tried and true sex appeal, as seen in looks that combine Preen’s sophisticated construction with provocative cutouts, complimented by feminine pleating. Needless to say, these are not the looks you will be wearing to the job interview, but they are where that first paycheck will be going.
