Diane von Furstenberg x Claridges

Diane von Furstenberg started an empire with on-the-go and go anywhere wrap dresses for the jet-setting woman. To take her international brand to new heights, she is pairing up with the Claridges. The 5-star hotel nestled in London’s tony Mayfair neighborhood is well-known for patronage by the illustrious and legendary. Her signature wrap dresses and fairy fashion god-motherly advice are highly sought after, a stay at this den of grand English style is sure to become a holiday must-have.

DVF, as she is oft referred to, will be revamping twenty of Claridges’s rooms and suites with interior designer Olivier Gelbsman. Years ago, she had an unforgettable experience staying there and jumped at the chance to add her own flavorful input. von Furstenberg is certainly not alone. Increasingly, designers are taking advantage of extending their brands to promote themselves. The full-on designer experience is becoming more and more marketable (note the boom of live feeding fashion shows as a testament).

However, DVF is doing things a bit differently. Sorry loyal fans! This will be no Maison DVF situation. She plans on “preserving the Art Deco and Victorian aesthetic” of Claridges. As told to W Magazine, “ you will have [the] flavor of 19th century, 20th century and now 21st century Claridges.” So that means bring your own spirit of Diane. She makes luggage too you know.

Etc…

Her personal touches will be seen in the rooms’ textiles and furnishings, showcasing her vision and unique eye for interior design. In fact, according to the Independent, “…she is launching a home wares collection (featuring bedding, tabletop and bathroom accessories) with textile furnishings company Spring Global”, due to launch in January of 2011. Some of us will surely look forward to not even having to leave home to be immersed in the fabulously ornate world of Diane von Furstenberg.
